We can “fake” being okay.

Lately people will tell me “You look like you’re feeling better!” or “You don’t look sick.” Sorry but really? Do you think that I would ever desire to look how I feel internally? Makeup can go a long way and in my case so can a wig. I may be too fatigued some days to even apply my face but on the days I do it doesn’t mean I’m miraculously cured. There’s a reason it’s called “chronic.” The reason being that it persists and will not disappear. Remission is possible yes but I will always carry the weight of my sickness. I state this not for pity nor attention but for awareness. It hurts chronically ill people to hear those kinds of statements. It serves as a reminder of what we are not; well.
With love,
Jessica.
